- (Appeal to the international society)*
The anti-popular Lukashenka regime tries to intimidate the Belarusan society and to break the resistance of the persons which are struggling for democracy and independence of Belarus. During the preparation of the electoral campaign and during the illegal referendum and the electoral farce in September-October 2004 the regime has launched a campaign of repressions against the members of the Conservative Christian Party - BPF which appealed to boycott the electoral farce actively (and in accordance with the actual Law). Some of the our Party members have been illegally arrested and fined. The local authorities have demonstrated the special cruelty in Vitebsk. They are acting in style of the state terrorism against the Belarusan citizens. Namely in Vitebsk the police, justice and the local administration (supported by the KGB and the Lukashenka central administration) are acting with the special cynicism and brutality. We are especially worried about Mr. Uladzimier PLESHCHANKA (born in 1948). He has been arrested by the police on October 16, 2004 when he appealed together with other Party members to boycott the illegal referendum and the electoral farce. The court of justice has accused him for “the illegal picketing” and sentenced him to 10 days in jail (this is Mr. Pleshchanka’s second sentence to 10 days in jail during the last month). During the process Mr. Pleshchanka has collapsed (he has a heart decease). But the doctor has said that he could be transferred to the prison. At night the administration of the prison should locate Mr. Pleshchanka in the hospital because of his bad health condition. His life is in danger.
Now the whole world knows that the regime has prepared and carried on the illegal referendum in Belarus. It is impossible not to notice the sufferings of a person which had expressed his views in accordance with the Law and during the last years suffered many repressions launched by the dictatorial regime.
We appeal the international society, the European Union and the OSCE to stand up for Mr. Uladzimier Pleshchanka, steadfast defender of freedom and human rights, fighter for independence of Belarus. We appeal the international organizations to express their opinion, to demand to release Mr. Pleshchanka from jail and to punish the organizers and executors of repressions against him and other patriots.
