APPEAL
On March, 25 2000 at 12 a.m. Mr. Yuri Belenki, the acting chairmen
in Belarus of the Belarusan Popular Front “Adradzennie” and of the
Conservative-Christian Party – BPF, has been groundlessly and cruelly beaten
by the forces of Lukashenka's regime. His head has been seriously wounded by
the bandits dressed in uniforms of the special forces of the Ministry of Internal
Affairs of Belarus. They have beaten him by legs and batons causing many trawms
on his whole body. A well-known politician has been attacked in the center of
Minsk, on F. Scaryna Prospect nearby the Philharmony. They continued to
beat him when Mr. Belenki has lost consciousness and was lying on the ground.
Mr. Belenki, a leader of one of the biggest political parties, has been transported to the military zone (on the Grushauskaya St.) and than to prison (on the Akrestsina St.). During two days he was in jail groundlessly. He appealed on the medical assistance but the administration refused to help him. Only after Mr.Belenki was released from the prison, he was subjected to a medical expertise. The doctors have fixed by him a trawm of the cranium and the brain and many other trawms. His condition is very bad because of the trawms and of lack of medical assistance in jail.
The massacre of the people in Minsk on Freedom-Day by the bandits dressed in uniforms cannot be forget and be left unpunished.
The Soim of the Belarusan Popular Front “Adradzennie” declares that the Procurator's Office has to investigate publicly all the facts of the arrests and the use of force against the peaceful citizens. We require to punish everybody who ordered to use force against the peaceful people and who executed these orders.
We appeal to the international human rights organizations to carry on the independent investigation of the inadequate use of military force in Minsk on March 25, 2000 against the peaceful citizens and to use all the measures to stop the violence by the authorities against the peaceful citizens in Belarus.
